Powder Standard Operating Procedures
A. Access to the primitive
black powder area
1. Access; will be controlled by the Range Officer. The key to the gate is in the Range Officer office.
2.If the -100/200 yard range is not scheduled to be shutdown, access will be
restricted to the cook shack.
B. Safety
1. All personnel will wear eye and ear protection while shooting or observing any shooting. If personnel do not have the necessary protection, they will not be allowed on the range.
2. No weapon will be handled if the range is secured and there are personnel down range.
3. A ‘hot weapon’ is one that has a charge and is capped or primed. All hot weapons will be fired prior to securing the range or the cap will be removed or the prime will be dumped.
4. Popping of caps or firing of a priming charge to ensure the barrel is clear will be performed only when the range is hot and the weapon will be pointed down range at a burn or at the ground immediately in front of the shooter
C. Sign up for shoots
1. The person that is putting on the shoot is responsible for the signing in of each shooter. The list and money collected will be turned into the Black powder committee member within two weeks of the shoot.
D. Targets
1. Target will be the metal silhouettes or paper. The paper targets will be placed on the wooden stands and shall be located such that the impact of the bullet will still be in the area of the berms.
E. Club Rules
1. All club rules will be adhered to. Failure to adhere to the Club rules will result in disciplinary action as specified by the Club By-laws.
F. Rendezvous
1. The Booshway is responsible for the scheduling of the rendezvous events. TheBooshway has the final word regarding safety during the rendezvous.
2. If the scheduled rendezvous is during a season when Kitsap County has
specified fire hazard conditions in the county, the Booshway will ensure that the black powder area and personnel are in compliance with the guidelines of Kitsap County.
