Poulsbo Sportsman Club, Inc.

Membership Information

Updated 4 April 2017

The renewal process for 2016 memberships ended on 31 March 2017. We currently have 65 memberships open for 2017 and are making offers to people on the waiting list to join the Poulsbo Sportsman Club (PSC). These offers are made sequentially based on your position on the waiting list. The initial sequence number on the waiting list for 2017 is #510 and there are 128 people currently on the waiting list. For people on the waiting list, please ensure that your NRA membership is current or your membership will be delayed.

Our club’s membership is capped at 750. With family memberships, the actual number of members is more than the number of actual memberships. For the 2016 we had 1289 members with access to the range.

If you are not currently a member and want to be placed on the waiting list, please fill out the 2017 application and check the box near the bottom indicating your application is being submitted for the waiting list ONLY. Do not send any payment at this time, but proof of current NRA membership and signatures are required to be placed on the waiting list. The more complete your waiting list application the fewer delays when your name works its way to the top of the waiting list. You will be contacted via e-mail when memberships are available.

Click HERE for the fill-able PDF form. You can type and print the form or simply print and fill it in by hand.

*** Please note our membership application requires the Adobe PDF reader program to open, fill out, and save the application form. Download Adobe Reader for free HERE. The PDF viewers built-in to some browser programs (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, and Firefox) will not satisfactorily print and do not allow the form to be filled in and saved. If you are having problems with the form in your browser, right click the link to download the file to your computer and use the Adobe reader program to open. ***

When applying to get on the waiting list, the following guidelines will speed your application process. If not followed, we must contact you and get these issues clarified or corrected before we can process your application.

• Use the current 2017 application form and note the P.O. Box for mailing in the form.

• Read and fill out your application legibly and completely.

• Be sure to enclose a photo copy of your NRA card (must show an expiration date or be a life member), or a print out from your NRA Online Member Services page, or a photo copy of the label off your magazine that shows your NRA membership number and expiration date. Filling in numbers and a date on the form does not prove you are a member of the NRA. We are a 100% NRA club; membership in the NRA is a requirement for PSC membership or for being placed on our membership waiting list. If you are renewing your National Rifle Association membership or initially joining the NRA, the Poulsbo Sportsman Club is a recruiter for the NRA.

• We encourage you to become a full member of the NRA and can offer you reduced rates for a one-year, three-year, five-year, or regular life NRA membership. Please click HERE to learn more.

• If you apply for a family membership, only one member of the family is required to be a member of the NRA.

• If you apply for a family membership, your spouse or companion must sign the form as well as any children living at home or in school who are over 18 years of age. Family memberships only include children less than 21 years of age.

• Please include your home phone number, a cell phone number if you have one, and a valid working e-mail address you check on a regular basis. If we need to ask you a question about your membership it is much easier to send an e-mail or call you. We do not sell or share our membership or e-mail lists.

Mistakes/omissions happen on a routine basis and can significantly delay the processing of your membership or renewal application. The two most common errors were:

Failure to enclose proof of current NRA membership with expiration date, and

Failure to provide the appropriate signatures on a family membership application.

Please ensure your membership application is complete, accurate, and legible.

We are open to the public and you do not have to be a club member to shoot at the range during normal operating hours; however, a fee of $15 is required for non-members.

Lost Membership Cards

Updated December 10, 2016

On a regular basis I receive inquiries about obtaining replacement or duplicate membership cards. I do not issue replacement or duplicate membership cards. A membership card is not required to use the range as a member.

If you are a member and show up at the range without your membership card, simply show the duty range officer picture identification and politely request he look up your name and number on the membership list. It is a basic process that has been in place for several years. If you receive pushback from any of the duty range officers in this situation let me know.

Corporate Philosophy – NRA Membership

Posted July 7, 2016

The executive board recently considered a motion to establish and post the reasons why we as a club require membership in the NRA as a prerequisite for club membership, both new and continued.

Before that motion and even a time or two since, the question ‘why bother?’ has come up. The implication I believe is obvious, that everybody knows why we have the requirement.

That doesn’t seem to be the case though. Every year during membership sign-up the question arises again. Some prospective members don’t like the idea and I have more than once heard non-members on the range say that is why they won’t join the club. That’s fine of course; if people don’t want to come to the range nobody is going to stop them. However that leaves the question remaining open-‘why?

There are some answers that I don’t think feed the bulldog, like: because we say so or because they help us or because we get better insurance rates. An easy response to that is ‘prove it’ and we are back at 'because we say so'. It’s pretty clear in my own mind but I don’t answer for the club, that’s the responsibility of the Executive Board and the voting membership.

I think it’s better to do things on purpose rather than by accident or because ‘we always have’, so I put the issue to the board, right out loud, let’s talk about why we do this. Is it money? Is it because it’s expected? As a representative group, members in attendance and board, let’s tell whoever wants to listen why we require it.

The result of the discussion wasn’t surprising but it was on purpose and debated openly and every member or visitor to the club or any interested party can see what we think. You can see what we describe as our reasons here and I don’t see any likelihood of the requirement or the reasons going away anytime soon. It was about time we did it.

We Use Internet E-mail…

Updated May 11, 2015

We use internet e-mail to notify the membership of upcoming votes, elections, membership renewal, and important developments relating to the county shooting range ordinance. Our e-mail list covers about 97% of the membership.

If you did not receive any announcements over the past few weeks, there is a chance your e-mail address has changed, we do not have your e-mail address on file, or the e-mail got caught in your spam filter. It is simply not practical to call or use the US mail.

Please send e-mail address updates to our membership chairman at . If the announcement got caught in your spam filter, please add and to your allowed address list.
