Rules for the "The Wild Bunch" Category

Sub Categories:

·         Dutch:  Shooters using a double action revolver

·         Pike:  Shooters using a semi-automatic pistol

·         Women will have their own categories

Handguns: 

·         Single action 1911 or 1911A1 style semi-automatic pistols .30 caliber/7.62mm or larger.

·         Pistols may not have barrel porting or compensators or any other recoil reducing device. 

·         Magazine wells may not have extensions or be oversized

·         Grips must be of natural material (wood, bone, ivory, etc.) or service type checkered plastic.  Grips may not have thumb rests, finger grooves, or wrap around the grip frame. 

·         Magazines may not be loaded with more than 6 rounds. Magazines will remain out of the pistol except at the loading table and firing line.

 

·         Other semi-automatic pistols in .30 caliber/7.62mm or larger caliber made until 1917.

·         Grips must be of natural material (wood, bone, ivory, etc.) or service type checkered plastic.  Grips may not have thumb rests, finger grooves, or wrap around the grip frame. 

·         Magazines may not be loaded with more than 6 rounds. 

 

·         Revolvers: any double action centerfire revolver that resembles a Colt or Smith and Wesson revolver made up to 1917 with period style natural material skinny grips with the grip frame showing all around.

·         Revolvers may not have barrel porting or compensators or any other recoil reducing device. 

·         Sights may not be optical.  Inserts or dots are permitted on sights. 

·         Moon clips or single rounds can be used for reloads.

Rifle: 

Any SASS legal main match rifle.

Shotgun: 

Any SASS legal shotgun, or 1897 military style trench gun.

Ammunition: 

Ammunition must have lead bullets only and meet SASS velocity requirements.

Leather:

Holsters and magazine/ammo pouches:  Western, military leather, or military web gear (no nylon, plastic or Kydex) type holsters and magazine pouches are acceptable.  Hunter type holsters as well as several western style semi auto holsters are acceptable.  Snaps are OK on leather gear.  Magazine pouches can have open tops or flaps. You don’t need to have snaps or flaps secured.  No modern IPSC, combat, or police type holsters may be used. 

Costuming: 

 

Normal SASS clothing is acceptable.  While many people continued to wear traditional western clothing several changes were also being made in the accepted styles of dress in the West Military uniforms or other types of clothing also portrayed in the movie are great.

 

Loading Conduct or Fire and Unloading Procedures:

·        Magazines may only be inserted in automatics at the loading table.  Insert the magazine, but do not chamber a round.  Pistols will be charged on the clock on the firing line. When you are finished shooting the pistol should have the slide locked to the rear. Drop the magazine, show the timer operator the chamber is empty, drop the slide, drop the hammer, and then reholster. Loaded magazines may be carried in pouches or pockets during the match.

·         Double action revolvers may be loaded with five or six rounds at the loading table.  Double action revolvers will be returned to leather with the hammer down on an empty chamber.

·         Up to six rounds shotgun rounds can be loaded in the 97 shotgun with an empty chamber and closed action at the loading table.

·         SXS shotguns will be loaded by normal SASS rules during the course of fire.
